After a gruelling four hour drive through early monsoon showers, and bumpy pot-holed and landslide ridden roads, we arrived at the Gruenberg Tea Plantation Haus which was to be our home for two days.
The three storey building set in a valley in Munnar – a hill station in Kerala, India is surrounded by tea plantations and forested hills.
The dirt road leading to the house through the Tata tea plantation in was muddy after the rain, and the accommodation seemed to be in the middle of nowhere with no amenities within walking distance.
But once inside, there is no where else you’d rather be. The view of the plantation, hills and valleys (especially at sunrise) from the top floor of the plantation house, and the peace and quiet made all that trouble to get to it worth it!
This hotel is ideal if you’d like some peace and quiet, and a cool environment to relax or work in.
It only has four rooms, and a balcony on the top floor overlooking the breathtaking scenery. Meals are served up in the balcony. You can order what you’d like for the day off a menu at the reception.
